The Grupo Folclórico de Barcelinhos began with Barcelinhos Choir and was founded in 1953. The group exhibits the Barcelos costumes called “Ir à Feira ou Domingueiro” (Going to the Fair and Sunday Clothes), “Trajes de Trabalho” (Working Clothes) and “Trajes de Luxo” (Luxury Clothes), which were used until 1900. The Grupo Folclórico de Barcelinhos is one of the founding partners of the Portuguese Federation of Folklore and is also part of CIOFF Portugal, IOV and INATEL. The annual Festival Internacional de Folclore Rio is the biggest folklore festival in “Baixo Cávado” - north of Portugal. Every year thousands of visitors come to Barcelos to admire the unmatched richness and color of the Festival Rio night. All this dedication work of our directors and members was acknowledged in the constitution of the Public Utility Association in 1995. Barcelinhos Folklore Group has participated in important International Folklore Festivals, representing Barcelos and Portugal in countries such as: Germany, Italy, Greece, Yugoslavia, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Brazil, Wales, France, Austria, Poland, and Spain. In national territory, the group has participated in festivals throughout the whole country.
